Scarlet Cord Grand Senatus of East Lancashire Held a virtual business meeting today 13th February 2021 on zoom. The meeting space opened at 11:30 am for a 12:30 start. Within minutes there were 65 companions of the order assembled with the retired military contingent firing of their usual good humoured mockery. By midday the numbers had swelled to over 140 (peaking at 150 during the formal meeting) and from all over the UK. With representatives from around the world: Australia, Hong Kong, India, The Caribbean, and the United States.
Rt.Dist. Companion Howard S Nuttall the Provincial Grand Summus opened the meeting at 12:31 by welcoming the honoured guests and companions of the Province.
The Provincial Grand Recorder then read the dispensation granting the meeting to be held virtually. This was followed by the Deputy Grand Summus giving the obituary for our only departed Distinguished Companion David Higginbotham (81 years old). The minutes of the last Provincial meeting and the accounts were submitted and approved as submitted by online ballot.
Howard then Introduced the Grand Summus Ian S. Currans and made his final remarks; stating how proud and honoured he had been to serve the Province during his tenure, he made personal thanks to a number of the leadership and congratulated his successor on his preferment and was sure that the province would be in more than safe hands. He then handed control of the meeting to the Grand Summus.
The Grand Summus addressed the meeting and thanked Howard and his team for the Stirling work carried out by them and that they handed over the Province in much better condition than that in which they received it. After a few pertinent remarks surrounding the effect of the Pandemic he went on to appoint by virtue the new Provincial Grand Summus for the Ancient and Masonic Order of the Scarlet Cord in East Lancashire Rt.Dist. Comp. Allan Martin Shields he went on to mention the stellar Masonic career of Allan and stated that he was confident Allan was the right man for the job further he was certain that Allan was going to lead the Province to a brighter future building on the solid foundation his predecessor had left him.
Allan then went on to Appoint by virtue Dist.Comp. Trevor Jewett as his deputy and Dist.Comp. David Greenhalgh as his Assistant.
There being only one nomination Dist.Comp Dennis Schiff was re-appointed as Treasurer as were the Account examiners Chris Wilton & Stephen Jackson.
Allan then read out the dispensation allowing him to appoint Comp Paul Joynson as Provincial Grand Recorder after which Paul then as his first duty read out the list of Provincial Appointments and Promotions. (provincial team page)
Allan then delivered a short, and it was short, address.
It was proposed by Dist.Comp. Ian Ronson that the province made a donation of £600 to the East Lancashire Mark Festival which was duly seconded and approved unanimously.
The Grand Summus made an intervention in which he made a field promotion to Past Grand Lecturer for Dist.Comp Ian Ronson who was surprised and honoured to receive this personal award from the Grand Summus. Congratulations Very Distinguished Companion Ian.
R.Dist.Comp. Allan Shields then closed the meeting at 13.10
David Greenhalgh asked Howard if his wife was close by, when she appeared, he made a presentation of an engraved decanter and glasses along with a bottle of gin to remember his time as our leader then as a thank you to his wife Carol he presented an engraved flower vase in recognition of her unstinting support during Howards time as our Provincial leader. Howard told everyone they would be thankfully received and properly applied.
